Arabic calligraphy is the artistic practice of the written word. It is known in Arabic as ‘khatt’, from the word meaning 'line'. Originally a tool for communication, with time, it began to be used in architecture, decoration and in other elements of design. In this 4 week course you’ll learn the techniques of basic lettering by completing a series of writing exercises to develop a greater understanding and appreciation for this striking art form.

In this workshop, participants will learn how to write the letter A in the Diwani script. The Diwani script was invented during the days of the Ottoman Empire and was used to write letters to the sultans due to the beauty and clarity of its letters. It was called Diwani script because it was specialized for writing daily correspondence in diwanis. Instructor: Mohamed Mandi
In this workshop will teach participants to make a painting on canvas using acrylic colours using Arabic letters. The words are abstracted and transcribed into letters derived from various types of scripts, such as Thuluth with Muhaqqiq and Diwani with Ruqʿah. Instructor: Ali Mamdouh

Photography is the art, application, and practice of creating durable images by a lens which is used to focus the light reflected or emitted from objects into a real image on the light-sensitive surface inside a camera during a timed exposure. With an electronic image sensor, this produces an electrical charge at each pixel, which is electronically processed and stored in a digital image file for subsequent display or processing.
