Maestro Abdel Halim Caracalla founded one of the most prominent dance theatres of the Middle East. As it celebrates its 50th anniversary, the Caracalla Dance Theatre has created its own dance style and performed at the most reputable theatres, opera houses and cultural capitals around the world portraying our Arabic cultural heritage and capturing global press recognition.
After its world tour and anticipated return to Abu Dhabi, the Caracalla Dance Theatre is proud to present its performance of A Thousand and One Nights at the inaugural season of the Cultural Foundation. This musical ballet trilogy lifts the veil on the mysterious East to the acclaimed composition of Scheherazade by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov at the majestic yet dramatic court of king Shahrayar where passion, love and revenge echo through the palace nights. Set to the Bolero of Ravel, our extraordinary tales continue in the second act in a vibrant bazaar from ancient lands, where a cunning wizard appears from the sands of time and lurks amongst the crowd in search of mischief. The final part of the performance is a return to our Arabic heritage and traditions, with a journey to the days of the caravanserai, a unique place of encounter where travellers from all walks of life rested after their long journeys to share in song, dance and adventures.
Choreographed by Alissar Caracalla
